Let Them Take Naps!
To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to petition the institution of Siesta in the United States. Many other countries have their own version of it, and I am open to suggestions of what this American version would be called. I believe that a mid-afternoon nap would be extremely beneficial for the entire country.
Allow me to give examples of what I predict would occur if people were allowed – encouraged even (though never forced) to take a nap after lunch during the workday.
- Productivity increases. More sleep means more energy, more energy means more functional workers. Their ability to focus will increase, therefore more work will be accomplished. Case in point: I spent the better part of my afternoon writing this letter because I was unable to focus on actual tasks because I am in need of some rest after ingesting a satisfying meal.
- Overall attitude improvements. When people are well-rested, they are generally in higher spirits. I believe naps would reduce the number of business men committing suicide, doing drugs and murdering their wives.
- Okay I don’t really have any more points that are separate points, but seriously those first two are pretty valid.
I think that our country’s crime rate will go down with our stress levels – particularly the crimes of the business class. I think some hookers might have to go on food stamps, but that will encourage them to find legal, socially acceptable jobs.
I realize that the afternoon nap would not be possible for certain types of work, but I am thinking of this more for the professionals who work in offices for 8 to 9 straight hours. I’m not saying we all need three hour naps. One hour should suffice.
I bet the President even enjoys a good nap from time to time.
I hope you take my request into serious consideration. Please contact me with any comments, questions or concerns.
Sincerely, however tiredly,

Tags: did you know that in Japan they have ROOMS specifically for mid-afternoon napping in most offices?, i feel like this is entirely valid and would like to be granted my nap now, i hope they read my letter, i know from experience with children that trying to force naps upon people is not a good idea, i think if i made a petition to go with this letter i could get a lot of signatures, i would feel a little bad about the hookers but i'm sure some well rested entrepreneurs would start a Prostitute Rehabilition Program where they helped the ladies of the night get day jobs, i'm not entirely positive "tiredly" is a word, if i were president i'd totally nap on Lincoln's couch, less wife-killing should be enough incentive on its own, two posts in one day is a little excessive but it needed to be said
